Project management skills

Most of the time, you'll be left to your own devices when it comes to producing documentation. Even when you're working in a large team, you team leader or manager will expect you to be able to make decisions on your own. You should have abilities in the following:

Because you'll be working somewhat independently, it's important for you to be able to organize all aspects of document production on your own. You need to be able to make decisions and keep track of all the components of your project. There will also be occasions in which you are working on more than one project at a time. This increases the work load put on you and taxes your organizational skills. If you're well organized, however, you'll be able to handle it.

Time management is also integral to technical writing, especially when you're dealing with multiple projects. You have to know when to schedule interviews and when to complete document components in order to have the project finished on time. You must also be able to prioritize the order in which document components should be done.
