For the mature woman, I would suggest the following choices:
EYES: No. 1 choice
CHEEKS: No. 1 choice
LIPS: No. 5 choice
Try each of the other color choice categories, taking careful note of how they alter the mature modelÂ’s look. Notice how certain bolder color choices actually age her appearance.

BEING THE BEST YOU!
Now, Ladies, let's talk about getting ourselves feeling, and looking, our very best!' Below you will find articles for mature women, in their 40s, 50s and beyond, on diet, exercise, skin care, make-up, and more, by Jeannine Schenewerk.
Spring/Summer 2008 Makeup Looks
Smokey eyes, matte lips, OH MY! Ladies, the cosmetic gurus can take a flying leap! Any mature gal who dons the Smokey-Eyes look is apt to appear as a maddened raccoon! It isn’t bad enough, that we’re still having blue eye shadows pushed on us, BLUE for gosh sakes! but now, the ‘LOOK’ is back to the dirty, Smokey Eyes! I thumb my nose at the gurus! The Clean look is so much better, for we mature gals. Avoiding under eye liner, and definitely NOT applying mascara to the lower lashes, saves a mature woman from looking worn out, and does not emphasize an area that often shows more age. Going Smokey is one sure way for a mature woman to come off looking just plain bad!

As for Matte lipcolorÂ…what can I say! You know yourself, Matte color applied to the lips of mature woman looks dry, hard, unflattering. Love a Matte color, want to use it? Great! Just top it off with a touch of lip gloss! But, Kabuki style makeup is not for we mature women, and I always think of flat Matte lipcolors as such.

DoveÂ’s PRO-AGE LINE
IÂ’ve been trying the entire line of DoveÂ’s new PRO-AGE skin and hair-care line, and have some results to report. The Pro-Age Shampoo and Conditioner are my new favorites, Ladies! My hair goes through a double process, base coloring, plus bleached highlights, and believe me, I need a GOOD shampoo and conditioner, that helps keep my hair from drying out. The Dove products work really well, and I am especially pleased with the Dove conditioner. It leaves my hair soft and manageable, without weighing it down, as so many conditioners have a habit of doing, especially those formulated for dry hair. I give the Dove Pro-Age Shampoo and Conditioner Two Thumbs-up!
DOVEÂ’s PRO-AGE Facial Moisturizers
I wanted to pass along my personal review of DOVE’s new PRO-AGE facial products. I have only good things to say about the PRO-AGE DAY Moisturizer. It goes on smooth, and is nicely absorbed into the skin. I find it works well, under my makeup foundation. Unfortunately, I did not care for DOVE’s PRO-AGE nightly moisturizer. It is far too ‘cold-creamy’ for my liking, leaving my face feeling too greasy. I am opting to use the day moisturizer at night.
Need to Know FactsÂ…
We mature gals are well armed with info. concerning the fact that we need to make certain we take in the proper amount of calcium and vitamin D, daily. What we may not realize, is that the human body is able to absorb only so much calcium, at one time. If you are taking a daily vitamin, containing calcium, but are as well, boosting your calcium intake by taking supplements, such as TUMS antacids, daily, it may be best to divide your intakes. Try taking your multi-vitamin in the morning, two TUMS at midday, and two more in the evening. What the body can not absorb, is merely spent, in waste material. We gals need to make sure what weÂ’re taking, is being utilized by our bodies.
Vitamin D: One of the simplest ways to get a dose of D is to spend at least 15 minutes a day, outdoors, using no sunscreen.
For women experiencing the hot flashes and/or night sweats:
IÂ’ve had notes from Ladies embarrassed by the change in body odor they are experiencing, while making the change of life journey. The frequent perspiring may result in a stronger than usual body odor. It is bacteria on the skin, breaking down the perspiration that causes the odor. The daily use of a good antibacterial soap, or body wash, such as those in the Dial line, will help control this problem.

'MANAGING YOUR WEIGHT'
'Sensible Advice'
Before beginning any weight-loss plan, or exercise program, please, consult your physician! Ladies, endeavor to take in the proper amount of Calcium, and Vitamin D, daily. Let's protect ourselves from degenerative bone disease, and retain our great postures.

What does food mean to you? To me it's the fuel we need in order to sustain life. That's all it is, ladies. Too often food is viewed as a pleasure, or a way to assuage boredom, or depression. It's used as a 'self' reward, in too many instances. Often, eating becomes an unconscious habit practiced while reading, or viewing t.v. If you're able to adopt a realistic view of food, maintaining a healthy weight may become much easier for you.

Let's say you want to lose some weight, but just don't know where to start. Let me give you two great weight loss tips:

I. Eat less, exercise more!
II. Say 'no thank you' to snack foods, and fast food!
Today we're told to follow this weight-loss program, or that weight-loss program, and after researching our choices, discussing them with our physicians, we're usually left to figure out what hopefully will work best for us. Considering we are all different, and we each have our own particular metabolism to deal with, it will be a matter of discovering our own individual weight management plan, and then, living by it! Long ago I adopted a low-fat way of life. I prefer fresh veggies and fruits, lean meat, fish, etc. This diet satisfies my appetite, takes care of my body's nutritional needs, and I have no problem maintaining a comfortable weight. Whether or not this type of diet will work for you, I don't know. It's my personal weight-maintenance choice, one that is right, for me.

When approaching weight management, set realistic goals for yourself. You want to feel your very best. You want to enjoy a certain level of energy. You want your clothes to fit better. These are all attainable goals. What no weight-loss, or exercise program will do for you, is give you back the body you once knew, twenty or more years ago! To believe it will, leaves you open to dire disappointment, when your weight goal has been accomplished.
Dieting vs. Adopting a Healthy Diet
No mature woman enjoys finding herself heavier. Many women entering menopause suddenly find themselves gaining weight, with no apparent reason evident. They may be eating as they have always eaten, and yet, the pounds just seem to accumulate. The worst thing they can do is throw themselves into a 'crash' diet, in an attempt to lose weight. Dieting can be a dangerous trap, for mature women. At a time of life when it's so important for us to take in the proper amounts of nutrients, too many mature women begin yo-yoing from one weight-loss plan to another, attempting to stave off unwanted weight.
As we mature, our metabolisms slow, it's just a fact of life. We must continue to maintain a good diet, and exercise regularly, in order to remain healthy, and active, into our senior years. If you are a basically healthy mature woman, there are steps you can take, to avoid unwanted weight. Ridding your diet of snack foods can be a major plus. Clean out those kitchen cabinets, Ladies! Pitch the chips, the cookies, the ice cream, soda, and the cakes! Also, even though it's so tempting to 'pick up' pre-prepared foods, it's far better to prepare our own meals. Keeping your meals simple, avoiding sauces, limiting your intake of bread products, these are all little steps that can be taken. Cutting back on portions is also a wise decision. Foods high in fat, foods high in carbs, can be avoided. We must look at our eating habits, and change what we can, to avoid weight gain. And, we need to stay with a plan that works, making it our life-long way of eating. Most women are able to lose weight, on weight-loss programs. Unfortunately, once they have lost it, too many times they return to the same diet, pre-weight-loss, and begin to gain all over again.
Keep in Mind
Ladies, there's a very important fact to realize, when losing weight. A change in the look of your body will not depend upon diet alone. It seems every year there is some popular quick-loss weight plan, and many women may indeed, shed some pounds. Unfortunately, there is a major draw back to 'quick' weight loss, for mature women. As we mature, our skin loses it's ability to 'spring back', so to speak. If you've carried a bit too much weight, your skin has 'stretched', and rapid weight loss may result in extreme sagging. A slower weight loss is much more to a mature woman's advantage. Exercising is an absolute necessity, to better aid the skin in attempting to firm, as we lose weight.

'EXERCISE'

You've chosen a weight-loss plan, and you want to help your body shed unwanted pounds, and tone-up, by getting it moving! Consider doing one of the best over-all exercises, walking. A brisk thirty-minute walk, three times a week, is an excellent start to getting in shape. I try to do the thirty minute walk four or five times a week. Along with this form of exercise, I also do a toning routine three times a week. This routine targets specific areas of the body, and for me, works like a charm! Remember, if it's been awhile since you've worked your muscles, start out slow! You don't want to cause yourself any injury, or suffer too sore muscles! Begin at a pace that's comfortable for you. If you have access to a pool, I can highly recommend 'pool walking'. I find it a wonderful 'resistance' exercise, and a great way to tone the lower body, especially the calves, and thighs, derrière, and even helps tighten, and firm, the tummy area! I 'pool walk' at a depth of three or four feet of water, starting at one side, walking to the other side, and back to my starting point, counting this as one complete trip. Work your way up to at least twenty trips, and in a few weeks, you'll see the difference in your body! And, no matter what form of exercise you choose, do keep yourself hydrated! I personally endeavor to consume three twenty-ounce containers of water, daily.

'SKIN CARE'
THE FACE
Oh! What we have perpetrated against our defenseless complexions! For how many years have we been told we need three, four, or more, 'steps', to care properly for our faces! Cleansing, exfoliating, toning, moisturizing...and those are merely the very basics, or so we've been told! Well, not me! I believe the less we put our complexions through, the better! And, it seems I may have been correct, all these years, considering what I've been reading lately, concerning skin care. I opt for a very simple approach to caring for my complexion. I use a very gentle cleanser; one that doesn't leave my face feeling dried out. My exfoliating agent is a clean, terry, washcloth, used gently, after I have applied the cleanser. After I rinse the cleanser from my face, using warm water, I apply my preferred toner, icy cold water! Then, I apply my moisturizer. I perform this ritual at least twice a day. As we mature, our skin produces less natural oils. A continual stripping away of these oils, with the use of too many facial products, no matter how 'gentl.
