Creating Styles

You can create new styles to automatically format paragraphs as you need them. The process involves going into the Style Editor, specifying the properties for the style, and applying the new style to the file's template.

To create styles:

  1. Select Format > Style... from the menu bar.

    The Style dialogue box appears. Use this box to create and edit styles you use in your document.

  2. Click the New... button in the Style dialogue box.
  3. Create a name for your style in the name field of the New Style dialogue box.
  4. Select (no style) from the Based On dropdown list.
  5. Select Paragraph from the Style Type dropdown list.
  6. Select the Add to template checkbox.

    When you create styles, you use the Format button to open various dialogue boxes. These boxes allow you to set specific properties for the style, such as font, point size, line spacing and more.

  7. Click the Format button and select Font from the dropdown list that appears.
  8. Set the font properties as you want them in the Font dialogue box.
  9. Click OK when you're finished.
  10. Click the Format button in the New Style dialogue box and select Paragraph from the dropdown list that appears.
  11. Set the paragraph properties as you want them in the Paragraph dialogue box.
  12. Click OK when you're finished.
  13. Repeat these steps for other options available from the Format dropdown list.
  14. Click OK to add the new style.
  15. Click Close to close the Style dialogue box.
