Inserting Shed Graphics

Shed graphics are hot-spotted images with the SHG file extension. Hot spots are regions on an image that a user can click like a hyperlink. The link can open a popup or jump to another topic in the help project.

To insert a shed graphic:

  1. In Word, locate the topic into which you want to insert an image.
  2. Place the cursor at the point at which you want the image to appear.
  3. Click the New Help Image button in the RoboHelp toolbar (following figure).

    New Help Image Button

The Insert Help Image dialog appears. Use this dialog to work with images in your help project.

  4. Enter the name of the image in the File name: field, or scroll through the list of images and select the one you want.
  5. Click Shed.

The Create SHED File dialog appears. The dialog displays the name of the image that you are shedding.

  6. Select Use current File Name but change extension to .SHG.

I use this option so I can keep track of all of my SHG files.

  7. Click OK.

Image Workshop appears. This gives you a preview of your shed graphic.

  8. Click X to close Image Workshop.
Image Workshop closes, returning you to the Insert Help Image dialog. If you look in the File Name list, you'll notice that RoboHelp has added your new shed image, using the original name of the image and adding the .shg extension.
    Tip
A common compile warning flag informs you that an image has been used as both transparent and non-transparent. You can specify transparency using the Transparent checkbox in the lower right corner of the Insert Help Image dialog.
You can also direct RoboHelp to insert the image as true code by selecting the True Code checkbox in the bottom left corner of the dialog. True code displays the image information RoboHelp uses rather than displaying the image itself. Inserting an image as true code can prevent Word and RoboHelp from choking on larger help projects when they try to display images.
  9. Click OK.

RoboHelp inserts the image into your help project. You can add hotspots by browsing to Images and Multimedia > Hotspot Images in RoboHelp Explorer, and double-clicking the image name.
