Overview

Okay, so one of my biggest pet peeves is the way people devote an entire web site to themselves. Honestly, if I wanted to know every detail about Bob from Non, Oklahoma, and the latest stupid pet trick he's taught his dog, I'd call him up. But, since Hokum is actually devoted to writing, I don't feel like I'm being a hypocrite for posting some information about me. Besides, I'm also using my web site as a vehicle for finding work, which is a perfectly fine way to utilize the Web.

Statistics

I'm a Scorpio and an Ox. I'm married with two children.

Education

I graduated from the University of Kansas in 1999. I have a bachelor of arts in anthropology and linguistics. I studied Japanese language, culture and society, and wrote a thesis on the urban observance of the New Year (Oshougatsu). I also wrote a paper about Yagi, a Jomon period village in Minamikayabe, Hokkaido Japan for an environment and archaeology class. That was really fun! I would like to return to graduate school some day and get a Ph.D. in anthropology.

Occupation

Currently I'm working as a technical writer. If you want, you can view my resume and hire me!

Interests

I have a lot of interests. I've been drawing all my life. I've also been writing all that time. I am just now getting to the point where I have energy and enough creativity to start submitting my work to some markets. I even have some published works.

I am incredibly interested in social sciences, including anthropology and sociology. I am interested in philosophy and religion. I love languages. I have studied Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, German, Italian, Russian, and ancient Egyptian glyphs. Of course, that's over a large span of time, and I really don't remember much of my German, Spanish, Russian, and Egyptian. The thing that really bugs me is that I'm slowly forgetting my Japanese and Chinese. But if you don't use it, you lose it. :-(

Finally, I love movies and movie sound tracks. Some of my favorites are Saboteur, The Manchurian Candidate, Harvey, Hard Days Night, Planet of the Apes, Hudson Hawk, Big Trouble in Little China, Alien, Aliens, Breakfast Club, Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet, Wing Chun, Tampopo, Chungking Express, The Mummy, Mystery Men, Ghost in the Shell, Mononoke Hime, American Beauty, The Fifth Element, and anything Monty Python. I must also add Pirates of the Caribbean to that list. My favorite directors are Luc Besson, Terry Guillium, Tim Burton, Sam Raimi, and Juzo Itami. I don't really have a favorite actor/actress, but I can say that Bruce Campbell rocks!!!
